Providence College Women's Soccer Takes On DePaul And Notre Dame

Providence, R.I.-Providence College women's soccer (7-5-3, 2-3-2 BIG EAST) travels to Chicago, Ill. to take on DePaul (8-6-2, 3-4 BIG EAST) on Friday, October 16 at Lincoln Park Field at 3:00 p.m. The Friars then travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on No. 10 Notre Dame (10-3-1, 6-0-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday, October 18 at 1:00 p.m. The Friars are 2-0-1 in its last three games and have continued its strong play in 2009. On Sunday, October 4, Providence defeated Villanova, 1-0, behind senior Jill Camburn's (Doylestown, Pa.) seventh goal of the season. Next, the team would play the first of two straight road games when it defeated South Florida, 1-0, on Friday, October 9. On Sunday, October 11, Providence then tied Marquette, 0-0, in double overtime to close out the weekend. Junior goalkeeper Jill Schott (Windham, N.H.) recorded three straight shutouts and earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday, October 12. Schott also received collegesoccer360.com Prime Time Performers of the Week accolades for her efforts. She has played in eight games for the Friars and has a 1.33 goals against average and a 0.851 save percentage. Camburn leads the Friars in goals (seven), assists (three) and points (17). Tied for second in goals with two is sophomore Courtney Collins (North Wales, Pa.) and freshman Alyssa Gillespie (Stratford, Conn.).
DePaul- DePaul Blue Demons are fifth in the BIG EAST National division with a 3-4 conference record. Its conference victories include a 2-1 win over Louisville on September 25, a 1-0 win over Cincinnati on September 27 and a 2-0 win over Seton Hall on October 9.
Tara Strickland leads the team in goals (five), assists (five) and points (15). Tied for second on the team in goals (three) is Lauren Pagone and Michelle Scandora. In goal, Claire Hanold has started all 16 games for the Blue Demons and has a 1.08 goals against average, a 0.757 win percentage and eight shutouts. Notre Dame- No. 10 Notre Dame is first in the BIG EAST National division with a 6-0-1 conference record. The Irish are coming off a 1-0 win on Friday, October 9 against then No. 10 Rutgers and a 2-0 win over Seton Hall on Sunday, October 11. Melissa Henderson leads the team in goals (seven) and points (16). Leading the team in assists (four) is Rose Augustin. In goal, Kelsey Lysander has played 10 games for the Irish and has a 1.15 goals against average, a 0.777 save percentage and has a 10-3-1 record, including nine shutouts. |
