The Providence College women's soccer team will travel to Pittsburgh on Sunday, Oct. 14 to take on the Panthers in an afternoon cap slated for 1:00 p.m. The Friars enter Sunday's game with a BIG EAST record of 3-5-0 (8-7-1 overall) and the Panthers currently hold a BIG EAST record of 0-6-2 (5-10-2 overall).
The Friars hosted their last regular season home game of their 2012 campaign on Sunday, Oct. 7. where the Friars were defeated by the USF Bulls, 1-0. The Bulls notched their game-winner with 2:37 left in regulation.
Providence hosted Pittsburgh in 2011 where they defeated the Panthers, 3-0. Then senior's Taylor Bartini (Suffield, Conn.) and Laura DiClemente (Blue Bell, Pa.) and junior Mary Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) each tallied a goal in the Friars' victory.
DiClemente returned to the 2012 roster as a fifth-year senior along with current senior Vercollone. The duo has combined for 16 points this season, nine and seven respectively. DiClemente tallied her nine points on three goals and three assists and Vercollone has notched three goals and one assist.
Upon the completion of Sunday's game with Pittsburgh, the Friars have one regular season game remaining versus Connecticut. The game is scheduled to be played in Storrs, Conn. on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7:00 p.m.
SCOUTING PITTSBURGH: The Panthers currently hold a BIG EAST record of 0-6-2 (5-10-2 overall). Pittsburgh has been out-shout by its opponents, 271-173, and out-scored by its opponents, 35-15. The Panthers have notched two ties with BIG EAST rivals, USF (0-0) and St. John's (2-2). Pittsburgh's leading scorer is Roosa Arvas who has tallied 13 points on three goals and seven assists.
