PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team continues BIG EAST play on Saturday, Oct. 12 when the Friars travel to Indianapolis, Ind. for a night cap with the Butler Bulldogs. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be played at the Butler Bowl.
Providence enters Saturday's game with an overall record of 4-6-3 (1-3-0 BIG EAST). The Friars have topped conference foe DePaul (1-0) and dropped decisions to Seton Hall (1-0), Creighton (3-2) and then ninth-ranked Georgetown (2-1).
Most recently the Friars fell to Georgetown, 2-1. Sophomore Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) notched the Friars' lone goal in the 71st minute. After being fouled in the Hoya's box, Zimmerman was awarded a penalty kick. She buried her strike past Georgetown's keeper to bring the Friars within one but that was as close the Friars would get.
Sophomore Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) tops the Friars score sheet with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Classmate Zimmerman ranks second on the team in scoring with eight points on three goals and two assists. For her three point performance last week, Zimmerman was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Junior keeper Jessica Goudreault (Sherborn, Mass.) has started each of the Friars last three games. In her most recent 270 minutes of play, she has recorded 14 saves and posted one shut out victory over DePaul, 1-0 (Sept. 29).
Upon the release of this weeks NSCAA National Rankings and Soccer America's Rankings, two BIG EAST teams find themselves in the top-25. Georgetown sits at the nine spot in both the NSCAA and Soccer America polls while Marquette ranks 21st in the Soccer America poll. Both Marquette and Georgetown remain the only two unbeaten teams in the BIG EAST with 4-0-0 and 3-0-1 records, respectively. The two teams will meet on Sunday, Oct. 13 at Marquette.
SCOUTING BUTLER: The Bulldogs enter Saturday night's game with an overall record of 8-4-2 and 1-3-0 in conference play. Butler's lone conference win came in a 2-1 victory over St. John's (Oct. 6). The Bulldogs are led offensively by Sophia Maccagnone who has tallied 21 points on seven goals and seven assists. Elise Kotsakis also has tallied double digits in the scoring column on five goals and two assists. Julie Burton has played 993:23 minutes in goal and tallied 34 saves for a .791 save percentage.
