Providence College Women's Soccer Takes On Marquette

Providence, R.I.-The Providence College women's soccer team (7-5-2, 2-3-1 BIG EAST) travels to Milwaukee, Wis. to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles (9-4-1, 3-2-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday, October 11 at 1:00 p.m. The two teams have met a combined four times with the last coming in 2008 when they tied, 1-1, in double overtime. The Friars enter the game on a two game win streak. On Sunday, October 4, the Friars defeated BIG EAST rival Villanova, 1-0, off of senior Jill Camburn's (Doylestown, Pa.) seventh goal of the season. Camburn leads the team in goals (seven), assists (three) and points (17). On Friday, October 9, the Friars traveled to Tampa, Fla. to take on the USF Bulls and left with a 1-0 victory behind sophomore Courtney Collins' third goal of the season. Collins' is now second on the team in goals (three), assists (two) and points (eight). The goal came in the 37th minute when freshman Alyssa Gillespie (Stratford, Conn.) crossed the ball off a corner and Collins headed the ball past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. With the victories, the Friars moved up two spots in the BIG EAST American Division as they passed Syracuse and Pittsburgh. Starting the last two games in goal is junior Jill Schott (Windham, N.J.) who has now notched two shutouts on the year. Schott enters Sunday's game with a 180 minute scoreless streak, a 1.09 goals against average and a 0.811 save percentage. All season the Friars have played well and hold an edge over opponents in shots, 209-139, in shots on goal, 83-66 and corners, 61-55. Their offense and midfield continue to create quality scoring opportunities while their backline has played solid, only giving up 14 goals on the season.
Marquette- The Golden Eagles are coming off an impressive 3-2 double-overtime win against No. 24/13 Connecticut. Marquette gave up two early goals to Connecticut and was down 2-0, but they would rally and score three straight goals to defeat the Huskies on senior night. The Golden Eagles held the edge in shots, 22-11, shots on goal, 10-3 and in corners, 7-3.
