Oct. 9, 2002

Freshman forward Kerry O'Malley (Longmeadow, Mass.) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for September 30 through October 6, 2002.

O'Malley earned the honor by getting assists on three of the four Friar goals in their two big victories last week over Syracuse (2-0) and New Hampshire (2-1). In the Syracuse game O'Malley had assists on goals scored by sophomore Veronica Bakke (Alesund, Norway) and senior Kyle McAuley (Trumbull, Conn.). The victory against Syracuse was Providence's first BIG EAST victory of the year and their first-ever against the Orangewomen. On Sunday, October 6 O'Malley also had a hand in the victory over New Hampshire when she assisted on sophomore Maura Robertson's (Wellesley, Mass.) game-winning goal.

O'Malley has played in all 12 games this season for the Friars and has two goals and four assists for a total of eight points. She is also in the top ten in the BIG EAST in shots and shots per game with 35 and 3.18, respectively.

Providence College's next game is at home on Friday, October 11 at 4:00 p.m. against the University of Pittsburgh.
