PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team improved its overall record to 7-2-1 with a come-from-behind win over Syracuse on Sunday, September 16. After the first week of BIG EAST play the Friars own a record of 2-0-0. The Friars are preparing for a weekend road trip at compete at Villanova and Georgetown. Providence will travel to Villanova, Pa. to face Villanova on Friday, September 21 at 4:00 p.m. before wrapping up its weekend with an afternoon cap at Georgetown at 1:00 p.m.
The Friars enter Friday's BIG EAST contest with a six-game win streak. The wins have come with victories over Lehigh (4-0), Central Connecticut (2-1), Brown (3-2), New Hampshire (2-1), St. John's (2-0) and Syracuse (2-1).
The Friar offense has been successful in generating their attack against opponents. To date, the Friars have tallied 59 points on 19 goals and 14 assists. As a team the Friars own a .477 shots-on-goal percentage. Freshman Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) tops the Friars' stat sheet with 15 points on seven goals and one assist. Other leading scores include fifth year senior Laura DiClemente (Blue Bell, Pa.) with nine points on three goals and three assists, senior Mary Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) with seven points on three goals and one assist and freshman Lauren Elia (Erie, Pa.) with six points on three goals.
The Friar defense has posted two shutouts thus far with a 4-0 victory over Lehigh, and a 2-0 win over St. John's. Senior Jenna Roncarati (Cumberland, R.I.), junior Alyssa Martino (Plainville, Conn.) and sophomore Allison Walton (Brunswick, Maine) have been key players in limiting opponents to 85 shots on the season and an average of 8.5 shots-per-game.

SCOUTING VILLANOVA: The Wildcats currently hold a 3-5-2 overall record (1-1-0 BIG EAST). Villanova beat Rutgers in overtime, 2-1, and fell to Seton Hall, 2-0. The Wildcat offense is led by Heidi Sabatura who has tallied eight points on one goal and six assists. Stephanie Meyers and Victoria Gersh have each earned six points on two goals and two assists.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN: The Hoyas currently hold a 8-1-1 overall record (2-0-0 BIG EAST). The Hoyas have defeated Seton Hall, 8-0, and Rutgers, 1-0 and have yet to concede a goal in BIG EAST play. Three Hoyas have earned double digit points for Georgetown. Daphne Corboz owns 18 points on seven goals and four assists, Kaitlin Brenn has recorded 13 points on five goals and three assists and Colleen Dinn has 10 points on four goals and two assists.
