Women's Soccer Hosts Boston College on Friday
Sept. 20, 2001 Boston College Eagles (1-3-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) - Boston College is coming off a 3-0 home-opening loss against Darmouth on Wednesday, September 19. Dartmouth scored in the ninth minute and never looked back despite being outshot by the Eagles, 15-13. Prior to Wedneday's game, the Eagles had not played for ten days, because of the tragedies on September 11. The Eagles' lone win this season came against Ohio State (3-1) on September 9, behind a one goal, one assist performance by Sarah Rahko (Londonderry, N.H.). Last season, the Eagles defeated the Friars, 4-0, as Rahko tallied the game-winning goal and added two assists. The Eagles are 18-2-1 all-time against the Friars. Friday's game will be the first BIG EAST Northeast Division game for both teams this season.
Providence College Friars (3-1-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) - Providence College returns to action after an 11-day layoff. The Friars last played on Sunday, September 9, as they fell to Brown, 5-0, for their first loss of the season. The Friars began the season with victories over Marist (3-1), Rhode Island (3-0) and Quinnipiac (2-1), respectively. At 3-1, the Friars are off to their best start since 1990. Freshman midfielder Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.) leads the team in scoring with one goal and three assists (five points), while freshman forward Kate Kearney (Glastonbury, Conn.) has two goals (four points). Senior captain Caitlyn Welsh (Winter Springs, Fla.), freshman forward Veronica Bakke (Aalesund, Norway) and freshman midfielder BriAnne Bruni (Bristol, Conn.) have posted three points each. Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) is second in the BIG EAST with 27 saves. The Friars' last victory over the Eagles (2-1) came in 1993 during the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
