PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team is set for a weekend series at home at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars welcome Fordham for an afternoon match-up on Friday, Sept. 20 at 4:00 p.m. and will finish their weekend with a game against Cincinnati at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22. The Friars enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-2-2.
Providence competed in two road games last weekend where the team posted a record of 0-1-1. The Friars recorded a 1-1 tie versus Harvard on Friday, Sept. 13 and fell to Boston University, 1-0 on Sunday, Sept. 15.
Sophomore Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) leads the Friars' score sheet with 11 points on five goals and one assist. Five additional Friars have found the back of the net including, senior Amanda Webster (Saugus, Mass.), junior Allison Walton (Brunswick, Maine), sophomores Lauren Elia (Erie, Pa.) and Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) and freshman Rachel Ugolik (Hamden, Conn.).
Freshman keeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) has started all seven games in goal for the Friars and holds a record of 2-2-2. In 617:15 minutes of play, Shea has recorded 37 saves for a .841 save percentage. Sophomore Megan Sweeney (Coral Springs, Fla.) has played 52:08 minutes in net where she recorded one save. Her first win of the season came in the Friars most recent 3-0 win over Vermont.
This weekend marks the last weekend of non-conference play for Providence. The Friars will open their BIG EAST slate on Thursday, Sept. 26 when they will face Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J. That game marks the first of nine conference games. Providence will host DePaul, Creighton, Georgetown, Xavier and St. John's and will travel to Butler, Marquette and Villanova.
SCOUTING FORDHAM: The rams enter Friday's game with an overall record of 2-4-1. Fordham's two wins came against Iona (1-0) and Vermont (3-0). The Rams are led by Kelsey Dougherty Howard, who has tallied a team best five points on two goals and one assist. Jessica Widmann ranks second on the team in scoring with four points on two goals. The Rams have been out shot by their opponents, 109-69 and out scored by their opponents, 15-6. Megan Fitzgerald and Ally White have split time in goal, playing 317:55 and 335:00 minutes, respectively. Fitzgerald has posted 20 saves and collected a record of 0-2-0 while White has tallied 15 saves and posted a record of 2-2-1.
SCOUTING CINCINNATI: The Bearcats enter the weekend with an overall record of 2-6-0. The Bearcats have posted wins against UMass Lowell (4-1) and Kent State (2-1). Before traveling to Providence, the Bearcats will face Cornell on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7:00 p.m. Cincinnati is led offensively by Mackenzie Reynolds who has tallied five points on two goals and one assist. Natalie Smith and Kristina Utley have split time in goal, each keeper has recorded 360 minutes in net. Both Smith and Utley have posted records of 1-3-0 and have tallied 12 and 13 saves, respectively.
