PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Goudreault (Sherborn, Mass.) was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week after helping the Friars kick off their 2012 BIG EAST slate with a record of 2-0-0.
On Thursday, September 13, Goudreault posted her first BIG EAST shut out of the season at St. John's (2-0). Goudreault finished the game with three saves. On Sunday, September 16 the Friars hosted Syracuse in their BIG EAST home opener. Goudreault came out of the cap with her fifth victory of the season and tallied one save.
Goudreault has logged 679 minutes in goal for the Friars and owns a record of 5-2-1. She has tallied 18 saves on the season and owns a .720 save percentage.
Freshman Lauren Elia (Erie, Pa.) earned her first BIG EAST honors as a Friar after scoring both goals in the Friars' victory over Syracuse. After trailing the Orange 1-0, Elia tied the match and notched the game winner with two powerful finishes. Elia has recorded six points on three goals for Providence thus far.
With victories over St. John's and Syracuse, the Friars improved their overall record to 7-2-1 and own a six-game winning streak.
The Friars continue BIG EAST play on Friday, September 21 at Villanova. The game is slated for 4:00 p.m.
