PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's soccer team (4-1, 0-0) will open BIG EAST play on Friday, September 19 as they take on the Connecticut Huskies (2-5, 0-0) at 5:00 p.m. in Storrs, Connecticut. The game will be broadcast via tape delay on Cox Sports Television on Saturday, September 20 at 12:00 p.m.

Providence College is coming off a hard fought victory over the Hartford Hawks on September 11. After trailing for most of the contest, the Friars scored two goals in the last five minutes of regulation to take a 2-1 victory. The scoring began in the 85th minute as senior Christie Gent (Plantation, Fl.) sent a corner into the Hawk box. After goalkeeper Lauren Brodeur made the initial save off a headball, senior Megan Mancarella (Rochester, N.Y.) took the rebound and put it in the back of the net for a 1-1 game. It marked Mancarella's first goal this season. Five minutes later, with only 17 seconds left in regulation, Friar sophomore Lindsey Trubia (Mystic, Conn.) sent a cross in front of the Hartford goal from the far corner. Brodeur attempted to deflect the ball out of play, but was unable. Freshman Courtney Collins (North Wales, Penn.) connected with a header into the back of the net to seal the victory for the Friars. It marks Collins' third goal of the season and third straight game with a goal. Friar goalkeeper Jill Schott (Windham, N.H) stopped one ball on five Hawk shots during the contest.

The Friars were set to due battle with the Davidson Wildcats on Sunday, September 14, but that game was cancelled due to inclement weather.

UConn enters their first BIG EAST contest with a 2-5 record. Last weekend, the Huskies hosted the UConn Classic and went 0-2. On Friday, September 12 the Huskies fell to the second-ranked UCLA Bruins, 3-0. Then on Sunday, September 14, UConn fell to the 17th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions, 2-0. The Huskies are led by preseason BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, senior Stephanie Labbe. Labbe has totaled 31 saves in six games this season.

After this Friday's matchup, Providence will play host to the UMass Minutewomen on Sunday, September 21 at 4:00 p.m. at Glay Field.
