Women's Soccer To Face Central Connecticut

The women’s soccer team will travel to Central Connecticut University on Sept. 15 for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff against the Blue Devils.

Scouting the Blue Devils
Heading into Thursday night’s match, the Blue Devils post a 2-6 record on the season. CCSU has captured wins in their last two contests over UMass Lowell (1-0) and Colgate University (1-0 OT). Junior Laura Casanovas Diaz leads CCSU with three points. Her one goal against the University of Maine on Aug. 21 and one assist in the Blue Devils victory over Colgate on Sept. 11.

On Sept. 12, senior goalkeeper Nicki Turley and junior defender Jennifer Cafferky were named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Player of the Week, respectively. Turley has recorded 39 saves over the course of 603:17 minutes of play. The senior’s calculated goals against average is 1.49 and save percentage is .796 for the 2016 season.

Scouting the Friars
The Friars are 4-3-1 on the season after a 3-1 loss against Harvard University on Sept. 11. Graduate student Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) and junior Julianna Pellegrini (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) lead the team with three goals and one assist for seven points on the season, each. Six other Friars have notched goals over the past eight matches including, Casey Estey (Kensington, N.H.), Rachel Ugolik (Hamden, Conn.), Jill Clapp (Marshfield, Mass.), Samantha Nelbach (New Windsor, N.Y.), Christina Klaum (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), and Katie Day (East Hampstead, N.H.). The Friars have scored a total of 13 goals on the season and conceded 10. The Friars have recorded 77 shots for a shot per game average of 9.6 with a calculated 1.62 goals scored per game average. In a poll released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Tuesday, Sept. 13 the Friars were ranked 8th in the Northeast Region.

Senior goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) has recorded 45 saves over the course of 759:52 minutes of play. The goalkeeper’s goals against average is 1.18 and save percentage is .815. She has tallied 4 shutouts in the 2016 season.

Season Awards
Sept. 5: Senior goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) was named BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week after a shutout weekend against both Boston University and Colgate University.
Sept. 5: Junior 
Juliana Pellegrini (Rockville Centre, N.Y) received BIG EAST honor roll recognition after scoring three of the Friars’ seven goals on the weekend.
Aug. 29: Graduate student Kathryn Hiller 
(Dartmouth, Mass.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after scoring both of the Friars’ goals against Northeastern and Maine, respectively.
Aug. 22: Sophomore Katie Day (East Hampstead, N.H.) earned BIG EAST Honor Roll after notching her first career goal on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute against then, No. 10 Rutgers.
