University of Maine Black Bears (2-1-0) - The Maine Black Bears are coming off their first defeat of the season, a 1-0 loss to Central Connecticut State on September 7. The Black Bears, who have outscored their opponents thus far this season, 10-1, are led by junior forward Annie Hamel (Magog, Quebec). Her hat trick against Canisius led Maine to the victory in its season opener. Hamel has a team-high four goals and has added an assist for a total of nine points. Freshman Heather Hathorn (Scarborough, Maine), last week's America East Co-Rookie of the Week, is currently tied for second on the team in scoring with four points. Black Bear senior goalkeeper Naomi Welsh (Waterford, Conn.) has been untested this season as she has only faced five shots, stopping four of them. Head Coach Scott Atherley is in his fourth year at Maine. The Black Bears were picked third in the America East preseason conference poll.

Providence College Friars (1-1-2) - The Friars return home on September 13 after three games on the road. In their last game, on September 6 against Hofstra, the Friars came away with a 1-1 tie. PC is currently led by Sophomore midfielder Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.). She has a team-high three goals and is one of three players on the squad with one assist. Robertson helped the Friars earn a 3-3 tie with URI on September 1as she scored with just 13 seconds remaining in regulation. She also scored PC's only goal in the tie with Hofstra on September 6. Junior goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) has backstopped the Friars this season. She has played every minute of PC's four games, and has recorded 19 saves. Providence looks to extend their winning streak against the Black Bears at Glay Field. The Friars are 6-0-0 against Maine in Providence and are 7-1-0 all-time versus the Black Bears.
