Women's Soccer To Host Brown University

The Providence College women’s soccer team will host Brown University at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Scouting the Friars
The Friars are 3-2-1 after a shutout weekend over Boston University (2-0) on Sept. 1 and Colgate University (5-0) on Sept. 4. Juliana Pellegrini (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) led the Friars’ attack with three goals on the weekend and is tied with Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) for most goals on the season for the Friars (three). Four Friars notched their first goals of the season in the 5-0 victory over Colgate including Rachel Ugolik (Hamden, Conn.), Christina Klaum (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Samantha Nelbach (New Windsor, N.Y.), and Jill Clapp (Marshfield, Mass.). On Sept. 6, the Friars were ranked 7th in the northeast region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Scouting the Bears
The Bears are 2-0-1 heading into Thursday night’s match after 1-0 win over Stony Brook on Sept. 4. Senior captain Carly Gould leads the Bears’ attack with four points on the season with one goal and two assists. Junior Maclaine Lehan and sophomores Celia Story and Abby Carchio have each tallied one goal on the season.  

Season Awards
Sept. 5: Senior goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) was named BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week after a shutout weekend against both Boston University and Colgate University.
Sept. 5: Junior Juliana Pellegrini (Rockville Centre, N.Y) received BIG EAST honor roll recognition after scoring three of the Friars’ seven goals on the weekend.
Aug. 29: Graduate student Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after scoring both of the Friars’ goals against Northeastern and Maine, respectively.
Aug. 22: Sophomore 
Katie Day (East Hampstead, N.H.) earned BIG EAST Honor Roll after notching her first career goal on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute against then, No. 10 Rutgers.

Up Next
Following Thursday’s match against Brown, the Friars will host Harvard University for a 4:30 p.m. contest on Sept. 11.
