Quinnipiac University Braves (2-0-0, 0-0-0 NEC) - Quinnipiac looks for its third straight victory after defeating Boston University, 1-0, on Wednesday, September 5. Junior forward Elisa Goncalves (South Windsor, Conn.) tallied the only goal early in the second half to lead the Braves. Goncalves, who was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week, leads the Braves in scoring with two goals and two assists. In their first ever meeting last season, the Braves defeated the Friars, 2-1, in overtime on a goal by sophomore midfielder Meghan Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.). Kennedy is among three other Braves, who are tied for second on the squad in scoring with one goal each.

Brown University Bears (0-0-0, 0-0-0 Ivy League) - The Brown Bears play their season opener on Sunday, September 9 as they host the Friars. Last season, Brown finished with a 13-4 record, including a third place finish in the Ivy League (5-2). Brown returns 17 letterwinners from last season's team. The Bears are led by senior forward Kim Lanzire (Bristol, R.I.), who tallied five goals and 11 assists in 2000 en route to earning First Team All-Ivy honors. Sophomore midfielder Molly Cahan (Encino, Calif.) posted four goals and two assists, while senior goalkeeper Mary Jo Markle (West Chester, Pa.) posted a 0.57 goals against average. Last season, the Bears beat the Friars, 2-0, as Lanzire scored the game winner. Brown leads the all-time series over the Friars, 16-2, including wins in the last seven meetings. The Friars' last win over the Bears came in 1993.

Providence College Friars (2-0-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) - Providence looks to remain undefeated on the season as it hosts Quinnipiac University on Friday, September 7. The Friars are coming off a 3-0 victory over the University of Rhode Island on Sunday, September 2. Freshman forward Veronica Bakke (Aalesund, Norway) scored the game-winning goal in her collegiate debut off an assist from freshman midfielder Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.). Robertson, the Providence College Co-Athlete of the Week, played a role in every goal as she finished with one goal and two assists. Freshman midfielder Kate Kearney (Glastonbury, Conn.) tallied her second goal of the season in the win over URI. The Friars' last win over the Rams came in 1997. Robertson and Kearny are tied for the team lead in scoring with four points each. Freshman midfielder BriAnne Bruni (Bristol, Conn.) is third with three points. Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) has allowed only one goal in 180 minutes this season. The Friars are currently ranked ninth in the NCAA Northeast Region, while Quinnipiac is ranked 10th.
