Women's Soccer Set To Host Brown

The Providence College women's soccer team will host local rival Brown University on Thursday, September 6 at 4:00 p.m. in Providence R.I. on Glay Field. The Friars enter the match with a record of 3-2-1.

The Friars enter Thursday's match after winning their last two games. On Friday, August 31 the Friars defeated Lehigh, 4-0. Freshman Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) notched her first two goals as a Friar in the victory. Laura DiClemente (Blue Bell, P.a.) recorded her third goal of the season, and now has eight points on the season. Freshman Morgan Thomasian (Manasquan, N.J.) also recorded her first points as a Friar with one goal.

On Sunday, September 2 the Friars defeated Central Connecticut, 2-1. Zimmerman tallied her third goal of the season and was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. Junior Amanda Webster (Saugus, Mass.) recorded her first goal of the season in the win over the Blue Devils.

After six games, DiClemente tops the Friars' score sheet with eight points followed by Zimmerman, with six. The Friars have outshot their opponents, 88-49, and hold the advantage in corner kicks, 26-15. The Friars have shown that they can be dangerous off of set pieces with two goals in last weeks games coming off corner kicks.

The Friars' back line is tough to beat having only allowed 49 shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Goudreault (Sherborn, Mass.) totals 11 saves with a record of 2-2-1. Freshman goalkeeper Megan Sweeney (Coral Springs, Fla.) notched her first start of her Friar career against Central Connecticut and has tallied four saves this season.

SCOUTING BROWN: Brown returns 21 players and welcomes seven newcomers to its roster. Among the returners is 2011 leading scorer, senior Eliza Marshall. The Bears return their entire goalkeeping staff including, sophomore Mallory Yant, junior MC Barrett and junior Amber Bledsoe. The Bears enter Thursday's game with a record of 2-0-0. On Friday, August 31 Brown defeated St. John's, 3-0, and on Sunday, September 2 the Bears beat New Hampshire, 1-0. Currently junior Louisa Pitney tops the Bears statistics with three points on one goal and one assist.
