Sophomore goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Monday afternoon (Sept. 1). Shea made 12 saves in total to end the week with a 0.43 goals against average.
In Thursday’s draw, 0-0, against Northeastern, Shea’s shutout included seven saves in all 110 minutes of play. Then in Providence’s 2-1 win in overtime at UMass on Sunday, Shea made seven saves in all 97:25 minutes of play, including a save in overtime to get the win.
Shea and the Friars are now 1-1-2 on the season.
Junior forward, Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.), was named to the weekly BIG EAST Honor Roll after netting the game-winning goal in overtime at UMass, marking her second goal on the season. Zimmerman also recorded her first assist on the season in the 32nd minute of play at UMass.
Providence returns to action at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept 4 at the Ray Treacy Track to take on Boston University.
