PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The BIG EAST Conference released its 2017 BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll today [Aug. 11]. Providence College was picked to finish fifth in the poll, with 48 points. Georgetown, who earned a No. 5 ranking in the 2017 United Soccer Coaches Preseason National Poll, topped the BIG EAST poll with 81 points and accumulated nine first-place votes.

The Friars are looking to earn their fourth-consecutive berth to the BIG EAST Tournament under the direction of fourth-year Head Coach Sam Lopes. Last year, Providence finished the year with an 11-6-2 overall record, including a 5-3-1 mark in conference play. Six of the Friars’ nine league games were decided by one goal and the team posted a 4-2 mark in those matches.

Providence will play its first three games on the road, beginning with matches against William & Mary (Aug. 18) and James Madison (Aug. 20). Both games will be played in Harrisonburg, Va. on the campus of James Madison University. The Friars then face regional foe Harvard on Aug. 25 in Cambridge, Mass.

Providence College will host Central Connecticut State University in its home opener on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Aug. 27 at 7:00 p.m. The match will be televised on Yurview (Cox 4 & 1004 HD).

The BIG EAST Conference slate opens on Sept. 23 as the Friars host Villanova at Anderson Stadium at 4:00 p.m.
