Providence, R.I. - Providence College senior soccer standout, BriAnne Bruni (Bristol, Conn.) was nominated for the 2005 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. This award honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

As team captain, Bruni led the Friars with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. Her eight goals was a team-high and included two game-winners. For her athletic efforts, Bruni was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on September 13, and was named to the Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association All-New England Second Team. Off the field, Bruni was a four-year Student-Athlete Advisory Council member where she helped raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She is a four-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.73 GPA, and was named to the Dean's List in each of her eight semesters at Providence. Bruni is a member of Tau Pi Phi (Business Honor Society), Chi Alpha Sigma (National Student-Athlete Honor Society), and received the 2005 Helen Bert Award as PC's outstanding female senior student-athlete.

Ten finalists will be selected from winners from each state including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. State winners, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, will be announced in August of 2005, while 10 national finalists will be announced in September. The overall winner will be selected from the 10 finalists on October 29, 2005 at the NCAA Awards Dinner in Indianapolis, Ind.
