PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College Women's Soccer Head Coach announced its 2017 fall schedule today [May 19]. Providence will open in Harrisonburg, Va. against William & Mary on Aug. 18 and James Madison on Aug. 20.

The Friars completed the 2016 season with an 11-7-2 overall record and a 5-3-1 mark in BIG EAST play. Lopes led the program to its third-consecutive BIG EAST Tournament appearance since taking over the program in 2014. The Friars are looking to continue to grow in the 2017 season.

"We had a difficult slate of games last year and this year will be no different," says Lopes. "Our schedule is certainly difficult, but exciting too, with many opponents who have excelled on a national level and/or competed to win their respective conferences.  Our non-conference matches will provide us the opportunity to compete against some successful programs, learn about our potential, prepare us for the vigor's of the BIG EAST Conference and hopefully put us in a position for post-season play."

The Friars will return home to Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Aug. 27 against Central Connecticut for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off. Providence will face three nationally ranked opponents during the season including No. 15 Minnesota on Sept. 3, No. 19 Arkansas on Sept. 10 and No. 3 Georgetown on Oct. 15.

The Friars will open BIG EAST Conference play on Sept. 23 against Villanova University in Providence, R.I. The team will face reigning BIG EAST Champion St. John's on Oct. 1 at 7:00 p.m. The BIG EAST Tournament will begin on Sunday, Oct. 29 and the Championship game will be played on Sunday, Nov. 5.

The BIG EAST Conference slate also features Xavier (Sept. 28), Butler (Oct. 1), Marquette (Oct. 8), Georgetown (Oct. 15), DePaul (Oct. 19), Seton Hall (Oct. 22) and Creighton (Oct. 26).
