Women's Soccer Head Coach Jim McGirr Announces Class of 2011
April 18, 2007 Providence, R.I. - Providence College women's soccer head coach Jim McGirr has announced the incoming class of 2011, all of whom will join the program in the fall of 2007. It marks McGirr's second recruiting class at Providence College. "With my second recruiting class, we were focused on continuing the trend of bringing in athletic and versatile soccer players," McGirr said. "One of the really outstanding attributes of this class is that all the athletes have excellent soccer backgrounds as they have had, through their various high school, club, and ODP teams, experienced winning at the highest levels. They share the belief and vision of what this program will be able to accomplish in the very near future." Kaitlin Delciampo- Wethersfield, Conn. High School: Captain of her Mercy High School team... Three year All-Conference selection... All-State honorable mention... Gatorade HS Athlete honoree... Middletown Press All-Area First Team selection... All-State 2006 Hartford Courant selection... 2006 Kelme MVP Award winner... Four year letter-winner in Lacrosee. Club Soccer: An eight year player with the Oakwood SC... Captain of her Oakwood SC U17 team. "Kaitlin comes to us with an impressive pedigree as a soccer player. She has the ability to play in an attacking midfield role, or as a forward. She has excellent technical speed on the ball, as well as quickness without the ball. She has the ability to take on defenders in a one vs. one situation, and the ablity to score goals, something we need to continue to do." Alyssa Leary- Edina, Minn. High School: Captained her Benilde St. Margaret's team in 2006... Earned All-State team honors in 2005... All-Conference First Team selection in 2004, 2005, and 2006... Named to the 2006 MSHSL State Tournament Team in 2006... Helped her team to consecutive second place finish in the MSHSL State Tournament in 2005 and 2006... Led St. Margaret's to conference championships in 2003, 2004, and 2006 as well as the Section 5A Championship in 2005 and 2006... A 2006 Las Vegas College Showcase Champion... A three year member of the National Spanish Honor Society and a three year Spotlight on Academic Achievement Award honoree.
Club Soccer: A member of the Minnesota State ODP team from 2002-2005... Won three consecutive State Cup Championships as a member of the Tsunami Rengo (2003), the Tsunami Sota (2004), and the St. Paul Blackhawks (2005)... Helped the St. Croix Eclectic to a first place PDA finish in 2006. "We were very fortunate to get someone of Alyssa's ability and intelligence, as she comes to Providence as a Merit Scholar candidate. Alyssa will play the forward position, and she has excellent athletic abilty and pace. She has the ablity to get on the end of balls served to her in the box, as well as the abilty to create her own opportunities to go to goal." Jackie Pastor- Langhorne, Pa. High School: A four year starter at The Pennington School... Helped Pennington to a 22-1 record in 2005, as well as a top 10 ranking nationally... Was named team MVP in 2003 as a freshman... A three time First Team All State Prep selection (2004, 2005, 2006)... Named a Second Team All State Prep selection in 2003... Helped Pennington to four consecutive N.J. Prep "A" Championships (2003-2006)... Also helped Pennington to two Mercer County Championships and two McDonough Tournament Championships. Club Soccer: A seven year member of the FC Bucks Lightning... Helped the Bucks to four EPA Championships, including her U-16 team... Jackie is also a four year member of EPA ODP State Team (U15-U19). "Jackie is a young lady I am very familiar with, having coached and trained her since she was 13. She will primarily play as an attacking outside back, but she has the versatility and ability to play the forward position as well. She is very athletic and has outstanding pace. She has the ability and confidence to complete quality service both right and left footed. She is mentally strong with a win at all costs attitude which is exactly what we need to move this program forward." Jill Schott- Windham, N.H. High School: Played for Central Catholic... Helped Central Catholic to the quaterfinals in the 2005 and 2006 State Tournaments... Named to the 2006 MVC All-Conference team... Recorded 10 shutouts and a .65 GAA in 2006... Named a 2005 MVC All-Star... Posted nine shoutouts and a .85 GAA in 2005... A member of the National Honor Society. Club Soccer: Played for the FC Greater Boston Bolts and the Spirit of Massachusetts... Was a 2006 gold medalist at the Bay State Games, in which she recorded a .50 GAA... Participated in the 2005 Disney Soccer Showcase, as well as the 2006 Las Vegas College Soccer Showcase. "Jill is a player that brings great size and athleticism to the goalkeeper position. She has great feet and a tremendous upside. She will have the added benefit of working under senior Laura Elfers, a four year starter who knows what it takes to win in the BIG EAST. Jill has the chance to develop into the future keeper of our program." Lindsey Trubia- Mystic, Conn. High School: Played at Stonington High School... Named to the All-State teams her freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons... injured her senior season... Three year honor roll student. Club Soccer: Played for the Oakwood U17 team... Four year starter at central midfield for the Connecticut ODP team... Helped her ODP team to the national finals in 2004. "Lindsey is a player who first caught our attention when we scrimmaged her club team here last spring, as she was one of the best players on the field. She has the athletic physique and strength as well as the technical skill to play in either a holding or an attacking midfield role." Marra Whaley- Rocky Hill, Conn. High School: Played at Rocky Hill High School... Captained the squad in 2005... Selected to the All New England and All State teams in 2004... A member of the All-Conference teams in 2003 and 2004... C.G.S.C.A. and Kelme Most Valuable Player Award winner in 2004... 2003 Rocky Hill High School Rookie of the Year... Varsity tennis player... Honor Roll student. Club Soccer: Played for the CUFC Wolves Elite Premier... Helped her team to the 2005 CT Snickers Open Cup Championship and the Oakwood Premier Invitational Championship... A Pioneer Soccer Camp participant and an ODP Region 1 Camp participant... Member of the Connecticut ODP Program from 2002-2004. "Marra comes to us with an excellent soccer pedigree from her teams in Connecticut. She has a high level of athleticism, which complements her ability to read the game. She will be a central defender and an outside back for us, as she has a great winning mentality and an ability to win balls in the air. We hope and expect that Marra will step in and contribute right away in order to fill the void left by the graduation of our senior captain Leah Vieira."
