PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Wednesday, Feb. 27 Providence College women's soccer Head Coach Jim McGirr announced today that nine student-athletes have signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Friars, beginning in the fall of 2013
"I am extremely proud to have these young ladies become part of our Friar Family and I am tremendously excited about the level of talent that they will bring to our returning team.," McGirr said regarding his excitement to work with the class of 2017. "This class will bring an additional dynamic to our attack with a more aggressive goal-scoring mentality and add some much needed depth not only to our frontline, but to our team in general."
Hannah Wear (South Salem, N.Y.)
Wear played club soccer for the New York Rush Patriots FC who won the NYE State Championship in 2012. The club also finished as the NERP Finalist (2012) and a NYE State Finalists (2011). Wear earned four varsity letters for John Jay High School where she tallied 40 goals and nine assists. She was a three time All-League honoree (2010-2012), a two time All-Sate selection (2011-12) and named All-State (2012). In addition, Wear was named MSG Varsity Player of the Year (2012) and Team MVP in her senior season. Wear also was a US Youth National Training Center MVP.
Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.)
Shea was a member of FC COPA Real who won the US Club Soccer National Championship in 2012. Shea earned four varsity letters for Piscataway High School where she served as team captain in her junior and senior seasons. She averaged 150 saves and 10 shutouts per season. During her career at Piscataway she received All-Red Division, First Team All-Area and All-Conference honors.
Rachel Ugolik (Hamden, Conn.)
Ugolik played for the Soccerplus Elite after spending four seasons with the South Central Premier Lady Owls. She attended the Region 1 camp in Boca Raton, Fla. in 2011 and 2012. Ugolik earned four varsity letters for Hamden High School where she was named All-State (2010-12), All New England (2012), All- Area MVP (2010 &2012) and Chronicle Post Sports-person of the Year (2012). She tallied 91 goals over four seasons for Hamden.
Kendall Andrew (Easton, Mass.)
Andrew was a member of the Scorpions Soccer Club. Her team won six state championships, three regional championships and was a national finalist. She earned four varsity letters at Oliver Ames where she notched 60 career goals and 23 assists. Andrew was named Hockomock MVP (2010-12) and Enterprise Player of the Year (2012). She also earned Brockton Enterprise All-Scholastic honors (2011-12) and Boston Globe All-Scholastic honors (2011-12).
Bridget Hillsman (Elmhurst, Ill.)
Hillsman was a member of the Eclipse Select ECNL. She was named to the Illinois ODP State Team (2008-09) and attended regional camp in those same years. Her team finished as the ECNL Regular Season Champions (2011-12), named State Cup Champions (2011) and finished in the ECNL Final Four (2010). She earned two varsity letters in soccer for Fenwick High School where she recorded the most goals in Fenwick varsity soccer history.
Moire Petrie (Havertown, Pa.)
Petrie played for the FC Delco Lightning. She was also a member of the EPYSA State Team (2006 & 2009-10), the EPYSA Regional Team Pool (2008-09) and the Region 1 Pool (2008-09). She earned four varsity letters for Lower Merion High School where she tallied 43 goals and 30 assists over the course of her four year career. Petrie received First Team All-Central honors (2009-12) and First Team All-Main Line Girls' Soccer honors (2010-12).
Brianna Ruane (Roslyn Harbor, N.Y.)
Ruane played for the Massapequa Elite. During her time with the Long Island Rough Riders she was a two-time Super Y National Finalist (2010-11). She was selected to attend the Super Y National Pool Camp in 2010, was named the Long Island Rough Riders Most Outstanding Player of the Year (2009) and Offensive Player of the Year (2008). Ruane earned five varsity letters for North Shore High School where she tallied over 70 goals over the course of her five year career.
Hannah Poirier (Warwick, R.I.)
Poirier played for the Bayside FC Bolts. The Bolts were Rhode Island State Champions (2007, 2009-12) and finished as a Region 1 semifinalist in 2011. She earned four varsity letters for La Salle Academy. The varsity program won three Rhode Island Division 1 State Championships (2009-11) and finished as a semifinalist in Division 1 in 2012.
Jillian Clapp (Marshfield, Mass.)
Clapp joined fellow incoming freshman Kendall Andrew as a member of the Scorpions Soccer Club. Her team won six state championships, three regional championships and was a national finalist. She earned four varsity letters at Marshfield High School where she captained her team in her senior season. Her team won the Atlantic Coast League (2009-11). In addition Clapp was a three year Eastern Massachusetts All-Star Varsity Socce Class Olympian (2013). Clapp was a three-year All-Scholastic recipient (2010-2012) and a three-time Atlantic Coast League All-Star. She was named to the ESPN Boston Girls' Top 20 (#16). TopDrawerSoccer nationally and regionally ranked Clapp #7 in 2013.
"Not only will the class of 2017 be a vital component to our success, but they also will do great things in the classroom and in the community to positively represent our women's soccer program here at Providence College," stated McGirr. "With this class we immediately increase our talent pool and continue to show the ability to recruit players from the National & Regional level, reinforcing the positive perception of our program in the soccer community, With the addition of these incoming players, the 2013 season shows signs of immediate success and an outlook of a promising future!"
