Two Women's Soccer Players Receive 2002 Soccer Buzz Awards
Feb. 7, 2003 Providence College junior goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) and freshman forward Kerry O'Malley (Longmeadow, Mass.) were named to the 2002 Soccer Buzz All-Northeast Second and Rookie Teams, respectively. Haines was rewarded for another strong season in goal for the Friars. Haines finished the season with a 6-6-2 record as she played in 16 of Providence's 18 games. Haines had a goals against average of 1.12 and a save percentage of .825 while recording five shutouts. She finished fourth in the BIG EAST with 85 saves and fifth in the conference with 5.31 saves per game. Her five shutouts ranked fifth in the BIG EAST and helped her finish third in the conference with a 1.12 goals against average. Haines provided veteran leadership on defense. She is the daughter of Joe and Bonnie Haines and attended Stillwater Area High School. In her junior season, Haines led the team to a State Championship. O'Malley had a major impact on the Friar offense this season. She was second on the team in points with 13 (four goals and five assists). O'Malley finished the season tied for eighth in the BIG EAST in shots on goal with 56, while finishing eighth in shots per game with 3.11. O'Malley, the daughter of Linda and Michael O'Malley, attended Longweadow High School and holds the school's record for career points with 77.
