Feb. 2, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

The Providence College women’s soccer team held its annual banquet on Saturday, January 28th at the Courtyard Marriott in Providence, R.I. The program celebrated seven graduating seniors and its third consecutive appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament.

Kendall Andrew (Easton, Mass.), Jill Clapp (Marshfield, Mass.), Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.), Bridget Hillsman (Elmhurst, Ill.), Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.), Rachel Ugolik (Hamden, Conn.) and Hannah Wear (South Salem, N.Y.) were honored for their dedication and commitment to the program over the past four years.

The team celebrated three All-BIG EAST awards, marking the second time in program history that three members of the women’s soccer team nabbed All-BIG EAST Selections. Kathryn Hiller, Kristyn Shea, and Hannah Wear were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.

The program welcomed back a 2013 Providence College graduate and women’s soccer alumna, Mary Vercollone to share her experiences with current members of the program and their families. Vercollone was a member of the women’s soccer team from 2009-12 and was an integral part of the team’s 2011 appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament.

In addition, the team presented its three individual team awards. The ‘We Not Me’ award was presented to Kristyn Shea and the ‘Maximize Today’ award was named to Kathryn Hiller. The ‘Process Award’ was collectively awarded to Hiller and Shea.

Head Coach Sam Lopes stated, “The graduating class has made a meaningful impact on the culture and success of our program, and their journey as members of the program does not end here. They’ll always be a part of the program and our overall growth.  Our program is on a rewarding path and this group of seven seniors should be proud of the influence they’ve had on the program’s direction.”

The Friars concluded the 2016 season 11-6-2 overall and posted a 5-3-1 mark in BIG EAST play, marking the ninth winning season in the 34-year history of the program. Head Coach Sam Lopes has produced a winning season in each of his three seasons as Head Coach of the program.
