Lia Bellizzi Joins The Women's Soccer Program As A Transfer

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Thursday, January 31 Providence College women's soccer Head Coach Jim McGirrannounced that sophomore Lia Bellizzi (Rye, N.Y.) has transferred into Providence College and will join the women's soccer program after spending her freshman and sophomore campaigns at the University of Virginia.

    Bellizzi made her college debut for the Cavaliers on August 21, 2011. She appeared in 13 games for Virginia over the course of her freshman and sophomore seasons.

    Bellizzi, a midfielder/forward, set career records at Rye High School where she finished with 93 career goals and 239 career points. She was a three time NSCAA High School All-American and a two-time ESPN Rise High School All-American. In addition, Bellizzi was named NSCAA New York State Player of the Year (2010). She was also a veteran of the Region I ODP team. Her accomplishments at the high school and club level earned her the No. 30 ranked recruit by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

    Bellizzi will participate in the Friars' spring practices and will be elligible to play immediately in the fall.
