    Providence Drops 3-1 Decision to Seton Hall

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Seton Hall defeated Providence College, 3-1, in BIG EAST women's soccer action on Saturday, October 4 at Providence, R.I. Seton Hall sophomore forward Kelly Smith netted one goal and added an assist to lead the team's offense.

    Smith opened the scoring as she blasted in a shot from 10 feet in front of the net to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead at the 5:16 mark. Seton Hall junior midfielder Courtney Wood kicked in a shot off of a rebound to increase the Pirates' lead to 2-0 at 68:13. Senior back Jessica Ramirez scored off a corner kick to record the lone Friar goal at 89:31. Thirteen seconds later, freshman forward Jaimie Silva broke in and lofted a high shot into the left corner of the net to seal the win for Seton Hall.

    Seton Hall junior goalkeeper Stacey Nagle registered six saves in the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Shayna Ross made six saves for Providence.

    Seton Hall improved its overall record to 10-1, 6-0 in the BIG EAST, while Providence dropped to 3-6-1 overall and 0-5 in league play.

    The Friars return to action on Sunday, October 12 against Pittsburgh at PC's Glay field at 1:00 p.m.
