The Providence College women's soccer team defeated conference foe Villanova, 1-0, on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the West Campus Soccer Complex in Villanova, Pa. The victory marked the last match-up for the Friars in regular season play. Sophomore Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, Conn.) tallied the game-winner to mark her seventh goal of the season. The Friars improve to 6-9-3 (3-6-0 BIG EAST) while Villanova moves to 6-9-3 (3-5-1 BIG EAST).
Providence took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when Zimmerman found the back of the net off of a set piece. Senior Amanda Webster (Saugus, Mass.) was awarded an assist on the play, it marked her seventh on the season. Zimmerman and Webster conclude the 2013 season as Providence's leading scorers with 17 and 14 points, respectively. The remainder of the half was scoreless and the Friars carried a 1-0 into the break.
The second 45 minutes were scoreless. The Friars held their 1-0 advantage until the end of regulation to mark their third conference win of the season.
Providence out shot Villanova, 17-13, and held the advantage in corners, 7-5.
Sophomore keeper Megan Sweeney (Coral Springs, Fla.) played 85:06 minutes in goal for the Friars and recorded seven saves. Junior Jessica Goudreault (Sherborn, Mass.) played the difference, 4:54, in net.
