Friars Fall 2-0 To Seton Hall In Women's Soccer Home Finale
Oct. 30, 1999 Providence, R.I. - Dana Sheffer and Kelly Smith each scored first half goals to lead the Seton Hall Pirates to a 2-0 win over Providence College in women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Glay Field. Sheffer got her fifth goal of the season at the 10:57 mark as she scored on a rebound off an Amy McKee shot from in front of the goal. Smith, the nation's leading goal scorer added to her total with a long drive that eluded PC's Shayna Ross (Sr., Whitman, Mass.) at the 26:45 mark of the first half. For Smith, a senior, it was her 24th goal of the season. Seton Hall outshot the Friars by a 12-9 margin in the game. Ross made four saves in the loss while the Pirates' Leah Miller recorded three saves in recording her third shutout of the season. With the loss, the Friars fall to 6-10-1 on the season while Seton Hall is now 10-8 overall. PC closes out the 1999 season on Tuesday, November 2nd when the Friars travel to Brown University for a 3:00 p.m. game. FRIAR NOTES....The loss marked the 11th time this season that PC has been shutout...When the Friars score in a game, they are 6-0....Shayna Ross needs just one shutout to tie the Providence College single season record for shutouts (7) and the career mark of 13. Both records are held by Jen Mead (1991-93)...Ross has made 54 consecutive starts in goal for the Friars....
