The Providence College women's soccer team faced #17 Marquette in an afternoon match at Valley Fields in Milwaukee, Wis. on Sunday, Oct. 27. The Friars fell to the Golden Eagles, 6-0. Providence moves to 5-9-3 (2-6-0 BIG EAST) while Marquette improves to 15-3-0 (8-0-0 BIG EAST).
The Friars trailed Marquette 1-0 after a goal from Mady Vicker in the 13th minute. The Golden Eagles increased their lead to 2-0 in the 41st minute when Ashley Handwork found the back of the net. The remainder of the first half was scoreless and Marquette held a 2-0 advantage at the break.
Marquette added four goals in the second 45 minutes of play. The Golden Eagles held their 6-0 advantage until the final whistle to mark their eighth conference win of the season.
Junior Jessica Goudreault (Sherborn, Mass.) played 64:35 minutes in goal for the Friars and finished the game with five saves. Sophomore Megan Sweeney played the remaining 25:25 in goal and also tallied five saves.
Providence will compete in its final regular season game on Saturday, Nov. 2 when the Friars will travel to Villanova, Pa. for a noon match-up with the Villanova Wildcats. The game is slated to begin at noon and will be played at the West Campus Soccer Complex.
