Box Score

The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated by Virginia Tech, 1-0, on Friday, October 24 in Providence, R.I.

On a day when they needed a victory to stay in the hunt for the BIG EAST tournament the Friars fell just short. The first half was controlled by Virginia Tech as they outshot Providence, 11-4, but were unable to get anything past senior goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.). The Friars started the second half strong and played hard determined soccer, outshooting the Hokies, 7-2. Providence had several opportunities but were not able to capitalize on any of them. In the 77th minute Virginia Tech forward Jessica Myers sent a corner into the goal area that was not cleared and ended up in the net as it deflected off of Haines.

With the loss, the Friars fall to 6-7-3 on the season and 0-3-2 in the BIG EAST, while Virginia Tech improves to 9-8-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the BIG EAST. Providence returns to action on Sunday, October 26 as they host the University of Miami at 1:00 p.m in their last home game of the season.
