The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated by No. 8 West Virginia, 2-0, on Sunday, October 20 in Morgantown, W.Va. The Mountaineers got on the board late in the first half when Chrissie Abbott scored her 17th goal of the year in the 41st minute. West Virginia's second goal was scored by Leslie Barden in the 61st minute on an assist from Jenn Lewis. Most of the game was played in the Providence defensive half of the field as the Friars were outshot, 36-5. Junior goalkeeper Caroline Hanies (Stillwater, Minn.) made 19 saves in the loss. The Friars fell to 7-6-2 on the season, while the Mountaineers improved to 14-1-1. Providence returns to action on Wednesday, October 23 at 3:00 p.m. against the University of Connecticut at Providence's Glay Field.
