    South Bend, Ind.- The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated, 2-0, by No. 7 Notre Dame on Sunday, October 18, in South Bend, Ind. The Friars are now 7-7-3 overall and 2-5-2 in the BIG EAST. The Irish improve to an impressive 12-3-1 overall and 8-0-1 in conference and remain first in the National Divison of the BIG EAST with 25 points.

    Notre Dame started the game strong and managed to score only 17 minutes into the match. Taylor Knaack would score her fifth goal of the season when she beat the goalkeeper to the far side of the net. Knaack is tied for third on the team in goals and has recorded 14 points total in 2009.

    The Irish would score again in the 27th minute when Amanda Clark scored her first goal of the season. Clark took a pass at the top of the box, turned and shot the ball to the far right side of the net. Clark had six shots on the game with four being on target.

    The rest of the game would remain scoreless and the Irish would go on to win, 2-0, over the Friars. Notre Dame held the edge in shots, 22-8, shots on goal, 9-3 and corners, 8-4.

    The Friars are back in action on Friday, October 23, when they host BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh at 3:00 p.m. on Glay Field.
