Piscataway, New Jersey - Rutgers junior back Jill McMeekin scored her first career goal with seven minutes left in the game to give the Scarlet Knights a 2-1 win over the Providence College Friars Friday night at Rutgers.

The loss hurts Providence's BIG EAST tournament chances as the Friars fall into ninth place in the league with a 2-7 record, 3-11 overall. Rutgers is now three points ahead of the Friars for the eighth and final playoff spot with a 2-3-3 league record. The Knights are 4-7-3 overall.

Rutgers took an early lead in the game when Uchenna Bright blasted a shot from the 18-yard mark off the left post past PC's Shanyna Ross at 21:05.

The Friars came right back just six minutes later when senior forward Patricia Moore scored her sixth goal of the season off a cross from Tricia Brennan at 27:30.

The score stayed that way until the 82:45 minute mark when McMeekin scored from the 18-yard box for the win.

Rutgers outshot Providence, 24-8 in the game. PC's Shanyna Ross made 12 saves in the game while Rutgers' Kate Macfarlane made four.

The Friars have just two BIG EAST games remaining. They travel to Villanova on Sunday afternoon and then travel to Seton Hall to close out the season on October 31st.
