PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women’s soccer team fell to #1/1 Notre Dame, 5-0 on Friday, October 17 at Glay Field. With the loss, the Friars fall to 5-6-3 (0-5-3 BIG EAST) while the Irish improve to 15-0-0 (8-0-0) on the season.

The Irish got on the board first in the 14th minute as Melissa Henderson took a shot from five yards out to make the score, 1-0. Notre Dame closed out the first half scoring in the 19th minute as Kerri Hanks scored on a penalty kick. Providence sophomore goalkeeper Jill Schott (Windham, N.H.) made two of her five saves in the first period of play. Junior Caitlin Hostetler (Portsmouth, R.I.) gave the Friars their best shot for a goal in the first half as her shot from 10 yards out was saved by Irish goalkeeper Kelsey Lysander.

In the second half, Henderson scored her second goal of the game on a shot from 10 yards in the 73rd minute. Five minutes later, Brittany Bock scored the Irish’s fourth goal on a penalty kick. Erica Iantorno finished the scoring with a shot from 15 yards out to make the score, 5-0.

Lysander and Nikki Weiss combined for two saves on the day. The Irish outshot the Friars 26-5 in the game.

Providence will return to action on Sunday, October 19 at Glay Field as they take on DePaul at 1:00 p.m.
