The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated by Georgetown University, 2-1, on Sunday, October 14 at PC's Glay Field.

Sophomore forward Courtney Shaub (Potomac, Md.) scored off a scramble in the box in the 83rd minute to lift the Hoyas over the Friars.

The Hoyas took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute as freshman forward Casey McCann (Mendham, N.J.) scored her third goal of the season. The Friars responded 54 seconds later as freshman midfielder Kate Kearney (Glastonbury, Conn.) received a through pass from senior forward Caitlyn Welsh (Winter Springs, Fla.) and fired a low shot passed Georgetown goalie Shereena Chang (Miami, Fla.). However, Chang made several great saves to keep the Friars from taking the lead. Chang finished with six saves, while PC's Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) stopped five shots. The Friars nearly took the lead in the 53rd minute as freshman midfielder Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.) fired a forty yard shot into an empty net, but it was cleared off the line by Georgetown's Liza Yannuzzi (Westfield, N.J.).

With the loss, the Friars fell to 5-6-1, while the Hoyas improved to 8-5-0.

The Friars host Binghamton on Tuesday, October 16 at PC's Glay Field.
