    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's soccer team fell to the West Virginia Mountaineers 3-0 in BIG EAST action on Friday, October 12 at Glay Field. The Friars fall to 2-10-1 (1-4 BIG EAST) on the season while the Mountaineers improve to 9-3-1 (5-0-1).

    The first half was an up and down battle as both teams battled for possesion. PC senior goalkeeper Laura Elfers (Deer Park, N.Y.) made four of her six saves in the opening period.

    The second half started out with much of the same until the 65th minute when WVU's Natalie Cocchi scored the first goal of the game on a header from six yards out. Five minutes later, the Mountaineers' Deanna Everrett took a shot from 10 yards out and put it in the back of the net. In the 73rd minute, WVU's Carolyn Blank took a high shot that Elfers deflected out of danger, ending the Mountaineer chance. West Virginia made it 3-0 in the 88th minute when Kim Bonilla crossed the ball in front of the net towards teammate Ashley Banks. Banks received the cross and took a shot from five yards out for the goal.

    The Friars will return to action for their final home game of the season on Sunday, October 14th against the Pittsburgh Panthers at 1:00. The Friars will celebrate Senior Day and will honor the six senior members of this year's squad in a ceremony before the game.
