Box Score

The Providence College women's soccer team defeated the University of Pittsburgh, 2-0, on Friday, October 11 in Providence, R.I.

The Friars, who have never beaten the Panthers, got on the board early in the 5th minute when sophomore Shannon McMorrow (Boca Raton, Fla.) scored unassisted off a rebound from her previously attempted shot. The second goal of the game came in the 22nd minute when sophomore Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.) made a low cross to freshman Kerry O'Malley (Longmeadow, Mass.) who flicked the ball past Pittsburgh goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi in to the far corner of the net. The tallies gave McMorrow and O'Malley two and three goals on the year respectively.

Providence outshot Pittsburgh, 26-9 and carried the play for most of the game. Junior goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) was not tested often but made four key save to earn her fourth shutout of the season.

With the win Providence extended their home winning streak to four and improved to 7-4-2, while Pittsburgh fell to 3-11-0 on the season. Providence's next match is on Sunday, October 13 at 12:00 p.m. at Virginia Tech.
