Friars Drop 5-0 Decision To Syracuse In Women's Soccer Action

Syracuse, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Cindy Wolf scored two goals including one via a penalty kick to lead the Syracuse University women's soccer team to a 5-0 win over Providence College on Sunday afternoon at Syracuse's Lampe Athletic Complex.

The Orangewomen scored four times in the first 20 minutes of the game with Jenna Szyluk starting the barrage at 4:41. Trisha Burch made it 2-0 at 13:29 before Wolf scored on the penalty kick at 18:58 to make the score 3-0. Midfielder Molly Schmelzle closed out the half with a goal at 20:07.

Wolf got her second goal of the game and fifth of the year at 51:15 of the game for the final of 5-0. Forward Candy Reich and midfielder Whitney Cali added two assists each to improve Syracuse to 9-4-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the BIG EAST's Northeast Division. The Friars fall to 3-8-0 on the year and 1-4-0 in the conference.

The Friars were outshot by a 28-2 margin in the game as goalkeeper Shayna Ross (Sr., Whitman, Mass.) was kept busy on the afternoon with 15 saves. Syracuse goalkeepers Katie Karlander and Riley Wogamon split the shutout as neither was forced to make a save in the game.

Providence returns to action on Tuesday, October 13th when the Friars host Maine in a 3:00 p.m. game at Glay Field.
