TAMPA, FLA. - On Sunday, October 9, the Providence College women's soccer team defeated the South Florida Bulls, 1-0. Although the Friars were outshot 14-9, sophomore Melina Toman (Albuquerque, N.M.) was able to convert a shot into what would be the winning goal, in the final minute of regulation.
The Friars fought hard throughout the entirety of the match and it paid off as Toman scored off a ball from senior Emily Castle (Stonington, Conn.) with only 89:28 left on the clock.
Overall, six Friars made up for the team's nine shots including three from senior Laura Di Clemente (Blue Bell, Pa.), two from senior Taylor Bartini (Suffield, Conn.) and one each from Castle and classmate Cynthia Warman (Osseo, Minn.), junior Jenna Roncarati (Cumberland, R.I.) and Toman. Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Walker (Metuchen, N.J.) had eight saves in the game. It was her sixth shutout of the season.
The Friars are back in action at home when they take on West Virginia on Friday, October 14 at 3:00 p.m.
