Friars Defeat Northeastern, 1-0 In OT, In Women's Soccer Action

Providence, R.I. - Sophomore forward Caitlyn Welsh (Winter Springs, Fla.) scored with three seconds left in the first overtime to give the Providence College Friars a 1-0 overtime win against Northeastern in women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at PC's Glay Field. Welsh's second goal of the season came from the top right hand corner of the box as she chipped a shot to the upper left hand corner of the Northeastern goal. The shot just cleared the extended the reach of Huskies' goalkeeper Rachelle Parkinson to give the Friars the hard-fought win. The victory improved PC to 3-6-0 overall on the season while Northeastern falls to 5-6-1 for the year. Parkinson made ten saves in goal for the Huskies while PC's Shayna Ross (Sr., Whitman, Mass.) made 13 for the Friars in the wide-open contest. Providence had 22 shots in the game while Northeastern had 16. The Friars return to action on Thursday, October 7th when they travel to the University of Connecticut for a BIG EAST Northeast Division contest that will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Providence, R.I.
