Women's Soccer Falls To #20 Marquette, 5-0

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Friday, October 5, the Providence College women's soccer team hosted BIG EAST rival Marquette in an afternoon cap at Glay Field. The Friars were defeated by the Golden Eagles, 5-0. The Friars currently hold a BIG EAST record of 3-4-0 (8-6-1 overall) while the Golden Eagles remain unbeaten in BIG EAST play, 6-0-0 (10-2-1 overall).

    The Golden Eagles struck first in the seventh minute when Ally Miller finished a corner serviced by teammate Maegan Kelly. Three minutes later Marquette tallied its second goal of the game when Kelly finished a loose ball in the box. The Golden Eagles would notch their third and final goal of the first half in the 11th minute when Vanessa Legault-Cordisco finished a strike from just outside the 18-yard box. The remainder of the first half was scoreless and the Friars trailed the Golden Eagles 3-0 at the half.

    Marquette would notch two additional goals in the second half to give the Golden Eagles a 5-0 lead. Despite the results on the scoreboard, the Friars were able to move numbers forward to create some scoring opportunities. Senior Mary Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.), junior Amanda Webster (Saugus, Mass.) and freshman Lauren Elia (Erie, Pa.) each placed a strike on goal.

    The Friars are set to host USF on Sunday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be played on Glay Field.
