Friars Win 1-0 At West Virginia on Michelle Caravana's Goal

Morgantown, West Virginia - Senior midfielder Michelle Caravana's goal off a redirect kick from teammate Kim Carr 12 minutes into the second half gave the Providence College Friars a 1-0 win over West Virginia at the Mountaineer's Soccer Complex Friday night. The goal was Caravana's first of the season and the third of her career.

Junior goalkeeper Shayna Ross, who started the week ranked second in the nation in saves per game (11.25) made nine saves in recording her first shutout of the season. The win was the Friars first-ever against West Virginia which leads the series, two games to one, and the first-ever in Morgantown, West Virginia.

The win improves Providence to 2-7 overall and 2-4 in BIG EAST while the Mountaineers fall to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in league play.

West Virginia had 22 shots in the game while Providence had nine on the evening. The Mountaineers Stacey Adams made four saves in the game, with all four coming in the first half.

Providence returns to action on Sunday afternoon when the Friars travel to Pittsburgh to face the Panthers in a 1:00 p.m. game.
