The Providence College women's soccer team was shutout, 3-0 by top-ranked University of Norte Dame on Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Alumni Field in Notre Dame, Ind. Notre Dame improved to a perfect 12-0, while the Friars fell to 3-9.

The Fighting Irish controlled play, out-shooting the Friars, 38-2. Junior Kate Thorlakson, scored the first goal (unassisted) at the 19:18 mark, while freshman Jannica Tjeder netted a goal at 18:25, ending the first half 2-0. Tjeder's goal was assisted by Thorlakson and senior Candace Chapman. In the second half, Shannon McMorrow (Boca Raton, Fla.) fired PC's first shot of the game at the top of the box (54:40). Four minutes later, junior Annie Shefter scored Notre Dame's third goal 18 yards out into the left side of the cage. Senior Lauren Ritchie (Sayville, N.Y.) attempted a header shot in the box at 84:34 that was saved by sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Westfall.
 

 

Freshman Ashley Fedyshyn made a career-high 11 saves in goal for the Friars and allowed three goals in 90 minutes of action. Nikki Westfall and Laura Karas each made one save for the Fighting Irish.

Providence continues on the road for their second of a four-game conference road trip against Seton Hall at Owen T. Carroll Field on Friday, October 8 in South Orange, N.J.
