The Providence College women's soccer team led the No. 11 nationally ranked University of Connecticut for 68 minutes, but the Huskies scored the game-tying goal in the 68th minute to send the game into overtime. UConn went on to win the game, 2-1, in the 103rd minute on Sunday, September 30.

Senior forward Caitlyn Welsh (Winter Springs, Fla.) gave the Friars a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute as she scored her third goal of the season off an assist from junior midfielder Kyle McAuley (Trumbull, Conn.). The PC defense led by goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.), helped maintain the lead until the 68th minute. Haines finished with 10 saves in the game.

The Huskies tied the game with 22 minutes remaining as Abby Shepherd (Milford, Mich.) scored an unassisted goal. In the first overtime, Salla Ranta (Helsinki, Finland) scored the game-winning goal at 102:17 to give the Huskies the win. The Huskies outshot the Friars 37-3.

The Friars fell to 4-3-1, 0-2-1, while the Huskies improved to 7-2-0, 4-0-0.

The Friars are back in action on Friday, October 5 as they travel to St. John's for a BIG EAST Conference game.
