FAIRFIELD, CONN.-- Despite a five save performance from senior goalkeeper Laura Elfers (Deer Park, N.Y.), the Providence College Women's Soccer team fell to the Fairfield Stags by a score of 1-0 on Sunday, September 23rd at Fairfield.

Neither squad had an advantage in the first half as both teams combined for seven shots. The Friars totaled four shots in the contest while the Stags took 14.

The Friars started off the second half with a shot from senior back Danielle Wieneke (Sudbury, Mass.) that was saved by Stag goalkeeper Brett Maron. Fairfield took control of the game in the 79th minute when Nicole Cavallaro sent a corner kick into the box that was headed into the back of the net by Alex Caram to give the Stags a 1-0 lead. PC's best chance for the equalizer came in the 88th minute when junior defender Christie Gent (Plantation, Fla.) sent a corner into the box which was received by junior Megan Mancarella (Rochester, N.Y.). Mancarella then took a shot that was saved on a diving stop by Maron. Maron totaled two saves in the game.

Providence will continue its BIG EAST play on Friday, September 28th when they travel to Marquette. Kickoff against the Golden Eagles is set for 8:00 p.m.
