The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated by the University of Miami, 2-1, on Sunday, September 22 in BIG EAST action in Coral Gables, Fla.

The Friars started quickly by scoring at the 1:03 mark of the first half when sophomore Veronica Bakke (Alesund, Norway) scored her first goal of the year off of an assist from sophomore Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.). Miami responded in the 16th minute when Allison McWhinney found the back of the net on an assist from Lindsey Yach. The game remained tied until the 73rd minute when the Hurricanes' Yach scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on an assist from Michelle Provenzano.

Providence was outshot by Miami, 30-7. Freshman goalkeeper Caitlin Pickul (North Andover, Mass.) played all 90 minutes of the game in her first action of the season and recorded 18 saves on 20 shots on goal.

The Friars fell to 3-3-2 on the season, while the Hurricanes improved to 6-3-0. Providence returns to action on Wednesday, September 25 against crosstown rival Brown University at 2:00 p.m. at PC's Glay Field.
