Women's Soccer Falls To Villanova, 2-0

    VILLANOVA, PA. - On Friday, September 21, the Providence College women's soccer team traveled to Villanova, Pa. for an afternoon match-up with Villanova. The Friars fell to the Wildcats, 2-0. This is the first loss for the Friars in BIG EAST play where they currently hold a 2-1-0 record (7-3-1 Overall). The Wildcats improve their BIG EAST record to 2-1-0 (4-5-2 Overall)

    The Friars trailed 1-0 after the Wildcats notched the first goal in the 29th minute. Emily Damstrom finished a feed from teammate Heidi Sabatura.

    Villanova was awarded a penalty kick in the 58th minute. Sabatura finished the strike and gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. The remainder of regulation was scoreless.

    The Friars finished the game with 12 shots and four corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Goudreault (Sherborn, Mass.) recored five saves for the Friars and freshman goalkeeper Megan Sweeney (Coral Springs, Fla.) tallied two, for a total of seven on the game.

    The loss to Villanova ends the Friars' six game win streak that began on Friday, August 31, at home against Lehigh.

    The Friars wrap up their weekend road trip with an afternoon cap on Sunday, September 23 at Georgetown. The game is slated for 1:00 p.m.
