The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated by St. John's University, 2-1, on Friday, September 20 in Providence R.I.

The Friars started the scoring in the 38th minute when Lauren Ritchie (Sayville, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the year on a header off of a cross from Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.). After the half St. John's scored in the 75th minute when Courtney Rett slipped a shot past goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.). The Red Storm scored again in the 81st minute when Claudia Rubino collected a rebound off of the post from a Rett shot and put it past Haines for the winning goal.

Providence outshot St. John's, 15-12. Junior goalkeeper Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) played all 90 minutes of the game and recorded six saves on 12 shots.

The Friars fell to 3-2-2 on the season, while the Red Storm improved to 4-0-3. Providence returns to action on Sunday, September 22 against the University of Miami at 1:00 p.m. in Miami, Fla.
