Providence, R.I. - Providence, R.I. -- Junior Alexa Ricardo and senior Patricia Moore scored goals less than three minutes apart in the first half and junior goalkeeper Shayna Ross made 14 saves as the Providence College Friars won their first game of the season, 2-1, versus the St. John's Red Storm.

The win improves PC to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST play and snaps a 16-game (0-15-1) BIG EAST winless streak dating back to October 12, 1996. St. John's is now 0-6 overall and 0-4 in league play.

PC jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Ricardo's 15-foot blast that just snuck in under the crossbar at 12:47 of the first half. Less than three minutes later at 15:35, senior defender Lisa Zagura put Moore in ahead of the defense and she chipped a 15-foot shot over SJU's sophomore goalkeeper Jen Frankel for a 2-0 lead.

St. John's came right back and at 17:13, senior Marisa Haszto got through the PC defense to get a close shot on PC's keeper, Shayna Ross. Ross made the first save, but freshman Cara Calescibetta put the rebound in for a 2-1 game.

After that it was all Ross as PC's junior goalkeeper finished the game with 14 saves. Frankel made six saves for St. John's in the first half while Evie Ksenopoulos made one while playing the second half.

PC returns to BIG EAST action on Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game at Glay Field.
