Women's Soccer Falls to Quinnipiac, 2-1, in Double Overtime

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Quinnipiac University defeated the Providence College Friars, 2-1, in double overtime, in women's soccer action on September 17 at Providence, R.I.

Providence recorded the game's first goal at the 23:30 when junior Caitlyn Welsh (Winter Springs, Fla.) beat Quinnipiac goalkeeper Jenna Lawless (West Springfield, Mass.). Welsh scored off a rebound that came after PC's Kate Lyden (Bellingham, Mass.) and Melissa Crowley (Duxbury, Mass.) generated a flurry in front of the Quinnipiac goal.

Quinnipiac's Jen Monaco (North Haven, Conn.) tied the game at 67:08. Monaco's goal came after Alison Jaquith (Spencer, Mass.) blasted a shot at PC goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) that produced an open net for Monaco to score. The Braves' won the game at 114:29 when Lauren Carmody (Prospect, Conn.) tucked the ball in the top corner of the goal to earn the double-overtime victory.

In goal, Quinnipiac's Lawless recorded three saves while PC's Haines turned away six attempts.

With the loss, PC's record falls to 2-5-0 overall as Quinnipiac raises its overall record to 1-3-0.

The Friars return to action on Friday, September 22, when they travel to the University of Rhode Island for a 7:00 p.m. start
