Friars Fall To Boston University In Women's Soccer, 8-3
September 16, 1998 Providence, RI - Sophomore Mary Beth Magner and junior Suzanne Finn each scored two goals to lead the Boston University Terriers to an 8-3 win over the Providence College Friars in women's college soccer action Wednesday afternoon. BU scored four unanswered goals in the final 22 minutes to break open a 4-3 game on the way to the Terriers' second win of the season. BU led 3-1 after the first half and made it 4-1 on a Teresa Petruccelli goal just five minutes into the second half. Providence answered with two goals just 1:07 apart by senior forward Patricia Moore off passes from freshman Caitlyn Welsh to cut the lead to 4-3. Magner answered with her second goal of the game at 68:18 off a two-on-one set up by Finn to shift the momentum to Boston University. Finn scored both her goals in the final 20 minutes on the way to a two-goal and one assist game. Annalisa Radovsky and Christen Dutchka also scored for BU. The Terriers first goal was an own goal as a PC defender headed the ball into her own goal. Jill Flanagan had the Friars' first goal. BU's Beth Weisman made six saves in goal for the Terriers while PC's Shayna Ross made 11 saves for Providence. The win improves BU to 2-4-0 on the year while the Friars fall to 0-5. Providence returns to BIG EAST action on Friday at Glay Field with a 3:30 game against St. John's. at Providence, R.I.
